Recently in Miami, surveillance cameras captured a lethal high-speed accident at an intersection. The collision caused one death and injured 10 others.
The wreck involved nine vehicles and occurred by Marlins Park where Northwest Seventh Street intersects with Northwest 17th Avenue. As vehicles waited for the light to change, a dump truck from the Miami Public Works department came flying up behind the stopped traffic, smashing into the rear of a cab and shooting it approximately 50 feet forward into other vehicles.
The impact depicted in the video is alarming, as there was never an attempt by the dump truck driver to brake. An elderly woman riding in the taxi died at the scene. According to a local television station, the passenger was a regular with the cab company and well-known to other taxi drivers.
The cab driver suffered critical injuries, along with major damage to the cab. Two buses were also struck in the collision. Emergency medical personnel provided aid to 10 injured people at the crash scene, while seven were taken to Ryder Trauma Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Hazmat clean-up crews remained on the scene containing a leak of diesel fuel.
After the tragedy, the City of Miami issued its official statement regarding the incident:
“The City of Miami deeply regrets the loss of life and injuries that occurred as the result of a multi-vehicle crash, which included a Public Works dump truck. . . . A full investigation is underway.”
In similar fatal wrecks, survivors of those who are killed have the option of initiating a claim for the wrongful deaths of their loved ones.
